This handcrafted marble bust rests elegantly on a black metal base, standing at W. 23.5 | D. 30 | H. 58 cm. Each piece is unique, with variations in color and veining that add to its character. Inspired by an ancient masterpiece from The Met, this bust captures the leonine majesty of Lucius Verus, providing a regal touch to any space. HISTORIC PROVENANCEThe Bust of Lucius Verus is a reimagining of a marble portrait of the Roman co-emperor Lucius Verus (A.D. 161–169) in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is said that Verus, who ruled alongside Marcus Aurelius (r. A.D. 161–180), was an idle and feckless leader, but the fragmentary head at the Museum shows him favorably depicted as leonine and majestic. The original bust typifies the Antonine style of carving, with its exquisite drillwork in the hair and dramatic engraved eyes. Our reinterpretation has been faithfully carved in marble, which offers unique variations in color and natural veins, and is placed on a black metal base.
