HISTORIC PROVENANCE
The Wall Sculpture Sebennytos draws inspiration from an Egyptian fecundity figure (360–343 B.C.) at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Remains indicate that a major temple to the god Onuris-Shu once stood in the city of Sebennytos (Sammanud), and an inscription on this piece bears the name of Onuris-Shu, lord of Sebennytos. Fecundity figures like this one often decorate the lower register of temple walls, where they represent the fertility of the nomes, or territorial divisions, of Egypt being rendered to the gods. Our carefully crafted interpretation is designed in brass with a bronze finish.
